One fact about the savanna is that, it is the biome with the largest herds of animals.
5 Things to learn about the Savanna
1.Most people think the savanna is only found in Africa, when it is really located in 5 countries.

2. People should learn about the great diversity of animals that live in the savanna.
3. The Dangers of the African savanna, form a large elephant to a disease carring tick.
4. Introduced species and how they are effecting the biome.
5. That there is only a wet and dry season it the African savanna.
Intorduced Species in the Australian savanna cause enviromental damage.
These species are buffalo, pigs, para grass, and olive hymenachne. These species are outcompeting with native species. They are also doing considerable damege to the regions

Succession

Primary succession
This is a piece of land that suffered from a wildfire. Now the grass is beginning to grow in the burned land.
Secondary Succession
After the grasses and shrubs start to grow larger plant life will begin to grow. IN the Savanna There are limited amount of trees that grow so it will take a long time for trees to regrow.

introduced species

Intorduced species
Cattle were introduced into the African savanna as a domesticated animal. Now wild cattle herds are growing. The cattle are competeing with the other grazers in the savanna.
Density-dependent Limiting Factors.
Water is a density-dependent limiting factor. During the dry season of the savanna great herds grather around water sources. If a watering hole dries up the herds will have to find a new source of water, limiting the size of the population.
Density-Independent Limiting factors
During the dry season the grass and plant life become very dry setting up a great chance for wildfires. Wildfires destroy food sources for grazzing animals requiring them to move to new places to find food.

Coevolution mechanisms

Coevolution Mechanisms
Camouflage
The lion blends in with the tall grass to stalk up on prey.

Soil

The Savanna's soil is very compact and rocky, not the best for plants to grow on.
The Savanna's geographic feature is great grass plains, since it is a type of grassland biome.

Savanna

Savanna Biome
There are several different types of savannas around the world. The savannas we are most familiar with are the East African savannas covered with acacia trees. The Serengeti Plains of Tanzania are some of the most well known.
There is also a savanna in northern Australia. Eucalyptus trees take the place of acacias in the Australian savanna. There are many species of kangaroos in this savanna but not too much diversity of different animals
South America also has savannas, but there are very few species that exist only on this savanna. In Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela, savannas occupy some 2.5 million square kilometers, an area about one-quarter the size of Canada.

Precipitation

Monthly precipitaiton and temperature in the Savanna.

Abiotic and biotic

Abiotic factors. Rainfall, Temperature, Frequent fires, Compact soil.

Biotic factors Tall Grasses, Shrubs, Tress, Large mammals.

Parasitism

Parasitism relationship
This parasitism relationship is between a tick and any mammal. The tick will bite its host and begin to feed on its blood. The Tick benefits while the mammal is harmed.

Commensalism

Commensalism relationship
This is a Commensalism relationship between birds of the savanna and large mammals. In the picture the birds are following the elephants so they can eat the bugs the elephants disturb. The Elephants will also lead the birds to a water source. The birds benefit in this relationship while the elephants neither benefit or are harmed.

Mutualism

Mutualism relationship
This is a relationship between an Oxpecker and a rhinoceros. The bird picks ticks and parasitic bugs off of the rhino's skin. Both the Oxpecker and the rhinoceros benefit from this relationship

5 plants

5 Species of Plants
Baobab
The baobab is found in the savannas of African and India, mostly around the equator. It can grow up to 25 meters tall and can live for several thousand years. The baobab is leafless for nine months of the year.
Elephant Grass
Elephant grass is a tall grass that originally came from Africa in 1913. It grows in dense clumps of up to 10 feet tall. In the savannas of Africa it grows along lake beds and rivers where the soil is rich. Local farmers cut the grass for their animals.
Jackalberry Tree
The Jackalberry tree is found throughout Africa, from Senegal and the Sudan to Mamibia and the northern Transvaal. It is most commonly found on savannas or savanna woodlands where it can be found growing on termite mounds.
Umbrella Thorn Acacia
Umbrella Thorn Acacia is one of the most recognizable trees of the African savanna. It grows in sand dunes and rocky grounds of Africa's grasslands. Acacia's grow in areas with annual rainfall as low as 4 cm. This tree can survive in 122° F temperatures during the day, and freezing temperatures at nights.
Whistling Thorn This acacia can grow about 18 feet tall, but is often stunted in its growth. The whistling thorn acacia protects itself with pairs of long thorns up to 3 inches long.

Five Animal spiecies

5 Species of animals
African Elephant
They are the worlds largest land mammal. They can grow up to 12 feet tall and weigh up to 10,000 pounds.

Black Momba
Its the most deadliest snake in the world. Can grow up to a length of 14 feet, and travel up to 12mph.

Chamcma Baboon
Baboons are the savanna's version of the monkey, and are the largest member of the monkey family. The males can weigh from 59 to 97 pounds and are about 20 to 30 in. long . Females can weigh from 31 to 37 pounds and are 16 to 24 in. long

Nile Crocodile
The Nile Crocodile can grow to be five meters long. They have long snouts that can grab fish and turtles. They are dark olive in color, and young ones have bands around their body. But as they get older, the bands fade. They are the most intelligent reptiles on the earth.

Lion
The lion is the powerhouse of the savanna, weighing in at 265-420 pounds and up to 10 feet long. Lions have dirty beige colored fur and rounded heads. Males have something females don't... manes. Manes are a ruff of long hair around the neck which is brown in the front and black in the back.
The savanna biome is found in five different countries. Central Africa, Southern Asia, Northern Austrailia, South America, and a small part of Mexico in North America.
This Map shows the location of the savanna biome. The parts shaded light tan are the savanna reigons.

African wild dog

The African Wild dog is one of many endangered spiecies found in Africa. Also known as the African hunting dog. This spiecies is endangered because of its shrinking amount of room to roam in the African wilderness. The African wild dog is also highly susceptible to diseases from domesticated animals.
